Arguably the most important consideration driving the development of a custom floor is the color. We have built one of the most advanced facilities and product development teams in the industry in order to create or match virtually any color. Below are some of the special capabilities we have to facilitate the art of coloring wood:

  • We are among the industry leaders in the use of what are commonly referred to as ‘reactive stains,’ which are natural salt, acid and mineral compounds that react with the natural tannins and extractives in the wood. Reactive stains create incredible depth of color, natural variation and ‘positive grain’ effects that are impossible to achieve with traditional staining methods. The color is integral to the wood itself, as opposed to traditional wood stains that simply paint over the beauty that nature created. For more in depth info on Reactive Stains, click here.

  • The effective, consistent application of reactive stains requires substantial knowledge and investment. We have been using them for decades, and have invested in specialized spray machines for uniform application, water filtration systems, and a climate controlled facility for stain application and drying that ensures uniform conditions, which are critical. Very few finishers have these necessary elements, and they are impossible to provide when finishing floors on a jobsite.

  • Our finishing lines are capable of applying multiple stains sequentially, to create deeper, more complex colors.

  • We can coat your flooring with either Oil finishes or Urethane, depending on your lifestyle and preference. We also offer a heavy commercial grade urethane for more demanding applications. We work with the most renowned names in the wood finish industry, like Bona, Woca, Treffert and Ciranova - all European manufacturers.

  • When it comes to color, the species of wood is important. The same stain will look totally different on two different species. With our decades of experience working with a wide range of species, we can work with your designer or wood flooring contractor to recommend the right species for the look you are trying to achieve. While European Oak, Walnut, Hickory and Riftsawn White Oak are our current specialties, we also stock a range of other species in a variety of sizes, grades, and formats, both engineered and solid. We are backed by the deep inventories and sourcing capabilities of our parent company, Galleher, the West Coast’s largest wood flooring distributor.
